The $25,000 Alice Prize is a biennial acquisitive contemporary art award and is open to any artist working in Australia. The Alice Prize is not limited by medium, genre, subject matter or theme.

Conditions of Entry

1. Any artist working in Australia may enter. The Alice Prize is not limited by medium, genre, subject matter or theme.

2. The entry must be an original work that has been completed after 1 January 2014. The image(s) submitted must be of the final artwork for exhibition.

3. Artists may submit more than one entry. A separate Entry Fee for each artwork is required. Please note, no more than one artwork per artist will be selected for exhibition.

4. A panel comprised of three people, representing a mix of artists, curators and art academics, will select artworks for exhibition during February 2016. Selection will be based on artistic merit of the artwork shown in the submitted image(s). The selection panel's decisions are final and no discussion will be entered into.

5. A judge, who is a person of high standing in the Australian arts community, will view the selected Alice Prize entries prior to the exhibition opening and select one work for the Prize of $25,000 (acquisitive). The winner will be announced at the exhibition opening on Friday 15 April 2016. The judge's decision will be final and no discussion will be entered into.

6. Artists will retain copyright ownership of the submitted artwork image(s). Only artists selected for exhibition will be asked to sign a release statement to reproduce their work for the catalogue and advertising.


1.  All artworks are to be offered for sale. There will be a commission of 33% for all works sold.

2.  Artworks are not to exceed 2.7m in any dimension (height, width or depth).

3.  Works must be able to be displayed indoors. Works that include untreated plant or animal material may be subject to NT Quarantine Regulations.

4.  Electrical equipment submitted as part of artwork must include verification of safety testing.

5.  Artists may be required to contribute to expenses incurred where specialist equipment is needed during installation/performance of their artwork, including hire of video display equipment.

6.  Each selected artist will be responsible for transport of artwork to and from the Araluen Arts Centre to meet deadlines as notified. Artists are recommended to insure their work against loss or damage. Cost of freight and insurance of artworks is the responsibility of the artist.
