WAITOC is seeking artwork from an artist which will form the basis for the design of the logo and promotional materials for the Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference 2016.

Background:   The Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference (AITC) remains the leading Indigenous tourism conference in Australia and a flagship event for the WAITOC Association Inc.

About WAITOC:  Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) is the peak not for profit Association representing Indigenous Tourism in Western Australia. WAITOC comprises membership from all regions within Western Australia. The Association is autonomous and provides advice and information to all relevant State Government agencies as well as the tourism industry sector. WAITOC promotes Indigenous Tourism and provides a supportive network for Indigenous Tourism Operators within Western Australia. WAITOC believe that Indigenous Tourism is a unique industry in that it allows Indigenous people to participate at a real and meaningful level while still maintaining and valuing their cultural heritage.

WAITOC represents over 100 Aboriginal tourism operators ranging from traditional dance and dreamtime stories to contemporary history, bush tours and art. These members operate at different levels depending on the season and the length of time they have been in business. The range of membership is from tourism operators who are firmly entrenched in the tourism industry to those who are currently developing their tourism product and will be operating within the next 12 months.

WAITOC aspires to promote Indigenous tourism experiences and in doing so foster the development of new, culturally authentic Indigenous tourism ventures that will attract visitors to Western Australia ensuring that visitors receive the authentic Indigenous tourism experience they seek.

WAITOC is the convener of AITC.

Description of Project: WAITOC is seeking a new or existing artwork from an artist which will form the basis for the design of the logo and promotional materials for the conference. The successful artist will enter into a licensing agreement with the WAITOC Association for a non-exclusive license to use and manipulate the artwork. The original artwork and artist will be featured in the Conference promotional material.

The quality of the artwork will assist to brand the next AITC which will focus on the theme:  To examine how tourism can recognise and strengthen the fabric of Indigenous nations by acknowledging the past, respecting the people of today and their struggle for recognition, and building a future. Sub-themes for the conference will include topics on developing young leaders, economic development through tourism for emerging and established operators, environment and protecting culture.

The Artist is to supply an electronic version and/or photograph of artwork and an up to date Curriculum Vitae with their submission.

Scope of Artwork:   The artwork must be open to graphic design and will be manipulated to incorporate the conference title and theme. It will need to contain useful design and motif elements.

Budget:  The successful applicant will receive a design fee of $500 and it is a non-exclusive royalty free license for the logo to be used of the promotion of AITC 2016 from the time the contract is signed to and an end date being two years of the completion of the conference (11 March 2018). The design fee will be paid for new or existing artwork. There will also be exhibition opportunities as part of the AITC 2016.

Contractor:  The successful artist will enter into a contract agreement with WAITOC for the design.

Art Coordinator: The project will be coordinated by WAITOC. The contractual arrangement will be done through WAITOC. All issues relating to the artwork and the artists must be directed to the art coordinator. The art coordinator will assist in the liaison between the artist and the contractor on a needs basis.
