The Program Manager has primary responsibility for ensuring the effective day-to-day delivery of core programs and designated projects.

The Program Manager leads the Resource and Development Team in providing high quality services to ANKAAA's membership through a variety of strategies which include providing information, support and training to artists, art workers and Art Centres.

The Program Manager will be responsible for identifying and developing resources that support ANKAAA's program of activities. Excellent communication skills are essential including a capacity to work effectively across cultures. A genuine commitment to Indigenous self-determination and a passion for supporting and celebrating Indigenous culture and art is required, along with high level organisational skills.



  • Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous self-determination and the values of ANKAAA
  • Experience in program management, arts administration/ development, including management of grants
  • Understanding of the key issues currently impacting Indigenous art and culture in Northern Australia; and knowledge of the Art Centre sector
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary Australian art and understanding of Indigenous art and culture in the national/international arena
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated capacity to manage multiple responsibilities in a timely and effective manner when faced with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated capacity to coordinate, motivate and develop staff in a small team environment
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills in a culturally diverse environment
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy and ability to maintain high standards of professional presentation in the organisation's documents, electronic communications and event organisation


  • Relevant qualifications in business or arts administration
  • Experience in an Aboriginal Art Centre or similar commercial environment

Work Requirements:

  • Current Australian driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to undertake weekend and out of regular business hours work when required from time to time, particularly for meetings and regional travel, including to visit Art Centres and to assist with the week-long AGM and annual conference meeting
